The Dandelion Series

I was looking for hope in the face of death.
The dandelion captured me; a weed is merely a plant that grows in an undesired place. That’s where we need hope: in an undesired place. The dead puffs catching sun, ready to release new life. Seeds - the life-blood of the earth. Light invading darkness every hour of the day. Wind scattering, stillness settling. New life coming from death. I painted this image over and over, finding hope glowing red with morning, in the weeds, in sun and rain, in a promise stronger than death.
In his promise of hope in the face of death, Jesus used the image of a seed: “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” (John 12:24).
In honor of my father who used the dandelion puff as the image of inFOCUS.org. His life and death continue to inspire me.
